Every dollar helps.

The Abbotsford Police Foundation reserves the right to refuse any donation. All donations over an amount determined by the board of directors will be subject to approval of the chief constable of the Abbotsford Police Department (“APD”). Any gifts not accepted will be returned to the donor. While the APF may fundraise for specific APD or other qualified donee purposes, it only accepts undesignated and unrestricted donations so that funds may be directed to the greatest need. When a donor wishes to donate to a specific project, the donation will be used for that project to the extent reasonably possible to meet the mission and priority needs of the APF, in the discretion of the board of directors. Regardless of any stated donor restriction or intention, donations designated towards a particular program or project will be received on the understanding that, when the need for such a program or project has been met or if it cannot be completed for any reason determined by the board of directors, the remaining funds will be used where needed most.
A legacy gift is a planned future donation to a charity. It is a way for individuals to support organizations they care about after they are gone. Planned giving options allow donors to receive income and capital gains tax relief, depending on the specifics of the gift they allocate. Creating a legacy gift for the Abbotsford Police Foundation provides funding for Abbotsford Police Department initiatives falling outside of their annual operating budget, which help reduce crime and foster positive relationships within our city.

HOW DO I KNOW WHERE THE MONEY I DONATE TO THE ABBOTSFORD POLICE FOUNDATION (APF) GOES?
The APF is a registered charity. As with all charities, financial information is filed annually with the Canada Revenue Agency and is publicly disclosed. All net funds have gone for the benefit of the Abbotsford Police Department (APD).
Although it is a private society, the APF is registered with Canada Revenue Agency CRA as a “public foundation”. By law, the APF can only disburse to qualified donees (which is defined in the Income Tax Act to include municipalities and municipal agencies, such as the Abbotsford Police Department).
The Chief Constable is an ex officio member of the APF board of directors and so has access to all of our records. Our finances are completely known by the APD and the department can see that all net funds are disbursed to them in support of programs and capital purchases that are deemed appropriate by both the APD and the APF Board of Directors.
